There Are Many Common Myths Surrounding Herpes And Some Are Very Belie

There are many common myths surrounding herpes and some are very believable. Hopefully, any misconceptions that you have of herpes will be cleared up or any questions that you may have about herpes will be answered in the following pages. So read further and you may learn something about herpes, and if you don't and you already know all there is to know about herpes, well this may refresh your memory. Herpes, n. - in pathology, an acute inflammatory virus disease of the skin or mucous membrane, characterized by the eruption of small blisters on the skin and mucous membrane. There are two types of the herpes virus, known as type 1 and type 2. Genital herpes is a common infection caused by the herpes simplex virus. As well as getting herpes on the genitals, you may receive herpes on the mouth, a cold sore. The two strands of the herpes virus are almost identical. As a parasite, a virus cannot live on it's own and completely depends on the cells it invades. The cells that the virus invades are called hosts, any organism on or in which another (called a parasite) lives for nourishment or protection. Viruses, along with bacteria, are the organisms that most commonly cause infections in humans. The virus invades the body through cracks in the skin or moist mucous membranes found in the mouth and in the genital areas. These are six steps to how the herpes virus takes over the cell; (a) Viral adsorption to cell membrane, (b) viral penetration in cytoplasm, (c) enzyme uncrating of membrane protein DNA travel to nucleus and viral DNA takeover of cell, (d) new viral DNA made in nucleus, protein coats in cytoplasm, (e) synthesis of immature viruses: protein coating of new DNA, (f) rupture of cell wall: release of twenty-thousand to eighty-thousand mature membrane-coated viruses. When the host cell is destroyed, there are some symptoms and characteristics. Sometimes the symptoms can be very severe. For most people, the first symptoms of their first infection can be the most severe. Some symptoms are fever, aches and pains, as well as some specific genital symptoms. After those symptoms, you may also receive tingling, itching, burning, and/or pain. Those symptoms may last up to twenty days. After all those warning signs, painful red spots will appear and then if that isn't bad enough, a couple days after that, a whitish/ yellow blister will appear. Finally, the blister will dry out and it will leave a scab that will stay there for approximately ten days. The harshness and range of symptoms vary from person to person. Most women experience painful urination. When this happens, it's important to avoid more problems by drinking plenty of fluids to dilute the urine and from that, it reduces the pain and stinging. But, both men and women can experience fevers, ache s and pains. You may also feel run-downed. There is no need to worry if you have a second occurrence, well there is because you should always be responsible when you have the herpes virus, but recurrences are usually shorter and less severe and painful as the first one. Over time, recurrences decrease both in severity and frequency. Maybe sometimes you could experience no recurrences, but it's different with all people. It may be hard to detect the pattern of genital herpes. 60% percent of all people who have genital herpes don't even know they have it. These people however, are the ones that transmit the disease. Like I mentioned earlier, you must be responsible when you have the herpes virus. You can catch herpes through exposure to it by sexual partners, who have active herpes. You can get the virus sexually and orally. By taking a sip off someone's drink, you may receive the virus if they have active herpes. By kissing a loved one who has herpes, you can receive the virus. By going out in the sun for a long amount of time without proper SPF lip balm, you may receive the virus. That is called a cold sore. Women, who have genital herpes, generally get infection in the vulva, the entrance to the vagina and rarely the cervix. Men generally get herpes on the end of the

Free Appearances Informative Essay

Free Appearances Informative Essay Appearances The social order of a modern theater differs from that of the Elizabethan era At that time, theaters were open-air and served as the main places of entertainment for all classes. Consequently, they were attended by everyone, from workers to lords and the Queen. The rich and noble were also anxious to be seen in all their grandeur, and those who strived to seem richer and rise above the crowd could achieve it when attending a theater. In theaters of old times, there were two distinct areas. The first was a cheaper, not prestigious yard with many inconveniences from rain, snow, and terrible smell to pushing neighbors and pickpocketing. The second area was the galleries, partially or fully free from this discomfort, but also featuring seats. Seating higher and closer to the stage in the galleries was also directly associated with prestige. As the above-mentioned inconveniences are not present in modern theaters, and everyone now has a seat, those criteria are no more relevant. Today, the main criterion for choosing a seat is how well the performance can be seen from it So, the best seating is in the front orchestra. Prices there are the highest, and the seats are referred as premium. However, they do not contribute to the status of people sitting there; it is merely an optimal angle of view and distance. Because of these changes, the boxes are not generally considered a good place for watching a production; though in Britain, for instance, private boxes keep their traditional exclusive status and are used by the high class. Nevertheless, in general, people from high classes craving for publicity can obtain it elsewhere without visiting theaters. As people now can have their quantum of fun by watching TV, going to cinemas, surfing the Internet or reading books, theater is not the only entertainment for them. So, poor people and people with a low education level go to the theater less frequently than in Shakespeares time. These days, theater audience mostly consists of those who love theatrical performances or just want to be more intelligent and exp and their experiences.

Telecommunications in the Caribbean essays

Telecommunications in the Caribbean essays The world has undergone a dramatic change in the last 30 years. Each day, the revolutionary changes in technology bring us closer and closer together. Surprisingly, access to information brought along by technology is replacing the importance of access to natural resources as the main determinants of the socio-economic position of nations. While studying the effect that technology is having on the world, it is good to focus on a particular region. The Caribbean has proven to be a microcosm of this world-wide phenomenon. The Caribbean is comprised of mostly small island nations with small populations that were colonized by the European powers in the late 1500s. The native people of the region are now long gone, due to the genocide that happened to accompany the colonization process. Since then, many ethnic groups have made their way to the Caribbean. Groups such as Africans, Chinese, East Indians, and Javanese occupy the islands. In addition to this, English, French, Dutch, and Spanish are the official languages in various countries throughout the region. Such an assortment of ethnic groups and languages creates a region rich in customs and traditions, a factor that can often hinder development. Although the Caribbean is not a rich or heavily populated region, it is still a major Telecommunications Market. Contrary to popular belief, many countries in the Caribbean have Telecommunication infrastructures that are as advanced as those in the rest of the world. Much of this is due to the proximity to North America. However, the most important reason for the Caribbean being a major telecom market is the importance of the tourism industry to the economies of the Caribbean countries. In contrast to this, the poor throughout the Caribbean do not have access to telephones, let alone their own lines. Thus, the major challenge has been to balance the demands of the business sector with those of ordinary citizens in desperate need of...

Supporting your Claim Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Supporting your Claim - Essay Example Either way it is prudent and sometimes demands of the situation to produce objective and verifiable evidence to bring the point home for the readers. The facts should have permanence and universality and pass the test of time. The assertions you are making, the information, news and opinion you are giving, the facts, data and revelations you are presenting are all your ‘claims’ that needs be properly supported with objective evidence. Maxine C. Hairston says, â€Å"we all use another common thought pattern, that of assertion and support. We do that when we make a claim, and then back it up with reason†. (p57). Backing and supporting is done by citing authorities and studies in a manner to be understood and accepted by to the readers. You are obliged to adapt a tune and style appealing to the readers and entice them to a willing suspension of disbelief as stated by Coleridge in his Biographia Literaria.. Supporting your claim is important because â€Å"Professors are skeptical who expect authors to back their claims with evidence and rational arguments. As you draft your paper, try to anticipate at what points your readers might ask â€Å"How do you know?† or â€Å"What evidence do you have for that statement?† (Hairston, p5). Giving a universal appeal and acceptance to a piece of composition, the â€Å"claims† in an essay must therefore be supported by objective and verifiable evidences, otherwise the essay will turn into fiction or a fairy tale and would not appeal to the reason of the readership. The writer must therefore know his â€Å"claims† and must know the answer to question like â€Å"how do you know?† or â€Å"how can you claim?† An essay should hold the reader’s attention and have sublimity which comes with authentication of the facts narrated in the essay. The facts narrated should be universal and not limited in scope only known and understood in a local culture. They should also pass the test of

LOST Files in a hospital Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

LOST Files in a hospital - Essay Example It is through the negative facts that the nurse presented to me that I was able to find out the possible solutions for the problem. I have always been very effective in working with the organizations and so as my habit goes I was able to present the solutions as demanded by the board of directors. The faults I identified might be quite expensive to fix but the results are worth spending for. If not fixed now, leakage of information may cause even greater damage in the near future. The best security the organization should offer is security for the patients’ information. It is well known as the main duty of every medical institution apart from the duty of providing ultimate care. An estimated $150,000 will be needed in fixing the security situation once and for all. Some more $120,000 will be required for computer training. I can comfortably promise the board that there will be no regression if all my recommendations are attended to fully. This will include upgrading the entire I.T department, installation of up to date surveillance systems, and educating the nurses on the importance of computer security. As much as we train our employees, it would also be of much help we hired more trained and experienced employees to assist in directing our own. This will only cost the organization at most an extra $60,000. Apart from the problem of using a Management Information System that is not upgraded, the organization is also facing other problems that resulted to the agony. This is all from the results that were presented before me by the nurse that I hired. Basically, the other major problem is the level of ignorance of the employees as far as maintenance of the security for the organization is concerned. According to the report I received, many nurses log in with their passwords then leave the system open and accessible to any stranger. This enhances leakage of important and preserved information of the organization. The solution

Internal Controls Essay Example for Free

Internal Controls Essay Introduction It has come to the attention of the president of LJB Company that an evaluation is needed to determine the reliability and level of compliance of the company’s internal controls. It is imperative if the company is going public that it follow the regulations set forth by governing bodies. The punishment for violation of these regulations can be up to 20 years in prison. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 helps to ensure that shareholder investments and the general public are protected from fraudulent practices within accounting. According to SOX there are five components: 1) Assessment of Internal Control- An internal control report must be included in the company’s annual report. 2) No Altering of Financial Documents- If anyone falsifies or alters financial documents they are subject to criminal penalties that includes up to 20 year in prison. 3) Must Disclose Periodic Reports- Financial statements are required to be accurate as any items off-balance could be used in a fraudulent manner. 4) Data in a timely manner- Financial data must be presented within a reasonable timely manner. The information must be written in a way that any investor could make an educated decision about investing. 5) Types of disclosure controls- Each company or organization must have policies and procedures set forth that explains guidelines that will ensure proper financial disclosure. Internal Controls-Strengths The LJB Company does show some strengths in their internal controls including: 1) Using pre-numbered invoices- This allows for the company to account for all purchases and aide in making sure all purchases are recorded properly. This also enables the company to track any fraudulent cash disbursement in the event that invoices are missing. 2) Retaining employees- It reduces turnover time and the conflicts associated with being under staffed. LJB appears to have long standing commitments with their employees which is great for staff morale. 3) The suggestion of the use of an indelible ink machine for printing checks is a great idea as the ink cannot be erased or altered in any way. This aides in keeping fraudulent activities to a minimum and is a great way to incorporate more checks and balances to ensure compliance. Internal Controls- Opportunities for Improvement There are a few opportunities for improvement that a plan of correction should be put into place quickly to correct. 1) Segregation of Duties: The Treasurer and Controller should have separate duties. There should be at least one more employee to work alongside the account who has specific supervision over the accounts receivables and accounts payable functions. 2) Physical controls- It is required that companies keep physical controls such as documentation related to assets. From a risk management perspective it would be beneficial for the company to immediately place the printed payroll checks in the safe instead of them being left in someone’s office. IT should also set up specific employee log-in and passwords in order to be able to track what is being viewed by each employee and IT guidelines should be given to staff to ensure clarity of what is required of them. It is also recommended that there is a procedure for properly handling petty cash. Employees should not be able to just leave notes but have to request and justify the need for petty cash. A proper tracking mechanism should be put into place- a recommendation would be to use employee numbers to log the expense. 3) Human Resource controls- It is recommended that a thorough background check be completed on all eligible applicants. This will provide and verify information regarding the applicant, as well as confirm/deny any criminal activities. This should be implemented as soon as possible as this is a great way to aide in protecting the company’s assets. In conclusion,  if these recommendations are adhered to and all issues addressed appropriately it is very likely that the LJB Company will be less prone to fraud and reduce errors and mistakes. Essay --

This essay is to give an analysis of the television series, The Big Bang Theory CBS (2007- ) specifically the first episodes of season one, which introduces the five main characters of the series. I will be taking a look at the genre of the programme and how the programme falls into the specific genre and also a look at use of mise-en-scà ¨ne used in the first episode of the series. I will be undertaking this essay by explaining each approach with the use of theory and analysing this against the program in question and finally, my conclusion will be a summary of the points I have made within the analysis of genre and mise-en-scà ¨ne. In applying genre theory, I will proceed to analyse how the television series, The Big Bang Theory falls into the situation comedy as a genre. Firstly an understanding of genre is needed before an analysis can begin. ‘Genre derives from the French word meaning type’ (Bignell 2008: 116). Broadly used in, literary and media, more recently linguistics, to referring to a distinctive type of 'text'. (Chandler 1997). The term ‘Can be defined as patterns/ forms/ styles/ structures which transcend individual art products, and which supervise both their construction by artists and their reading by audiences.’ (Ryall, 1975: 28). Genres allow us to organise material into smaller categories, identify the ‘artistic product we want’ (Creeber, 2008). Having begun with the Greek philosopher Aristotle when he began to outline different works in to categories the term is still in use today and, now in television genres are used to differentiate a number of diver se television shows from each other, distinguish the comparisons between them in the content, style, and format of the show. Genre in television has become a sign... ...defined but with theorists having their own views and opinions on in what way they organise genre. Questioning whether genre is a possession of television texts themselves or a method audiences and producers understand them. Furthermore, mise-en-scene a respected tool for supporting directors in filmmaking for them to help the audience convey what is occurring within each scene with use of locations the characters are seen in and the props used by these characters. The Big Bang Theory fits the category of being a sitcom having followed in the footsteps of previous sitcoms with its comedic actors and continues jokes, familiar settings and sticking into its thirty minute time slot. In addition, the use of mise-en-scene is used well, viewers will be able to look at the scene of The Big Bang Theory and know the concept of the show and works in a way like genre does.

Free Essays on Civil War Reconstruction

Over the last 138 years, we as a nation have fumbled with the notion of freedmen and their role in society after the Civil War. Until the civil rights movement we looked back on Lincoln’s legacy of Reconstruction carried out by President Johnson as a noble step towards a truly free society. Until the mid 1900s it was clear who were the instigators and supporters of the Reconstruction. Andrew Johnson’s clear and â€Å"brave battle† towards Reconstruction targeted the carpetbaggers and the scalawags as corrupt people who took advantage of a devastated southern economy. I suppose they assumed after a time of war, it is wrong to pursue capitalism and opportunity (carpetbaggers) and see the potential of a new open opportunistic government (scalawags). Their egos and status clouded the vision of our government from seeing black people as they are-equal citizens of earth. Whites thought of them as children who couldn’t handle the complexity of co-running our government, when in fact we couldn’t handle or maybe were even a little intimidated by the complexity and potential of our African American brothers. It’s not surprising that the loudest voice of the time, our government, won the support bred from white propaganda that everything will be fine and the black man is free and happy. As unfair as it sounds, it took our black community nearly seventy-five years to gain the status and respect, making them a credible source of what the reconstruction really meant to blacks. In 1935, a black historian and activist by the name of W.E.B. Du Bois produced and released his view, the African American view, on what the Reconstruction Era really entailed. He entitled his book Black Reconstruction in America. Although his book was ignored by most historians, this was just the foundation of the social change that was to occur in the next five decades. Free Essays on Civil War Reconstruction Free Essays on Civil War Reconstruction In the years between 1860 and 1877 the citizens of the southern United States were faced with numerous social and constitutional issues that had been escalating for many years. With the Civil War and the issues of slavery and racism becoming very imminent, America was on the verge of major social and constitutional revolutions. The way these issues were handled would have a major impact on the United States as it is today. The secession of the southern states and the forming of the Confederacy brought about the first major constitutional change. The south felt that they needed to form the Confederacy because they felt that their states’ rights were being imposed upon by the Federal government (Doc. A). The Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 became one of the most important constitutional changes in that it freed the slaves in the 11 states of the Confederacy. Lincoln’s plan for reconstruction of the south was the Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction, which he instituted in 1864. He did this because he wanted the south to rejoin the Union. His plan was well liked in the south because it did not give blacks the right to vote and it only required a 10% loyalty oath vote. Tennessee was the first state to accept Lincoln’s plan and rejoin the Union. Later that same year, Congress had a response to Lincoln’s plan that was known as the Wade Davis Bill. Included in the Wade Davis Bill was a 50% loyalty oath vote and slavery was to be outlawed. It was required that state conventions were held, where new state constitutions were written. Soldiers and high-ranking military officers were not allowed to be part of the state conventions. This bill was given to President Lincoln right before Congress was to be recessed for the season. Lincoln did not immediately accept or veto the Wade Davis Bill, but he held onto it until after Congress had recessed, and this became known as the infamous â€Å"pocket veto.† The 13th and ... Good Friday and Easter

Good Friday and Easter Good Friday and Easter Good Friday and Easter By Maeve Maddox Reader Elaine Peters wonders if the word Good in Good Friday has anything to do with the word God, pointing out that the English good-bye is a shortened version of the once common expression God be with ye. The word goodbye is the result of running words together until theyve dwindled into a compressed version of the original. The English words good and god, however, are not related. Both stem from Indo-European roots. The word god meaning deity, is thought to come from a word meaning that which is invoked. Or, It could come from a different Indo-European word meaning to pour as in the pouring of a libation. The word good, meaning having a desirable quality, comes from a Proto-Indo- European base word with the meaning to unite, be associated, suitable. Like the word nice, good can be used in so many contexts that it is probably a word to be avoided by careful writers. For example, good can have the following meanings: prosperous: He makes a good living. beneficial: Spinach is good for you. welcome: The doctor gave him good news. fertile: The land isnt very good in this area. attractive: Actors must have good looks. genuine: This money is not good. advantageous: I got a good deal on this couch. Among the many meanings of good are virtuous, moral, and wise. One of the meanings of the word holy is infinitely good. From such meanings come the expressions the Good Book and Good Friday. To call the day of the crucifixion of Jesus Good Friday could seem a little perverse, but seen from the perspective of Christian belief, the day marks the salvation of mankind and the triumph over death. For that reason it is called Good Friday in the Christian calendar. The Christian use of the word Easter for the religious celebration of the passion and death of Christ is one of those ironies of linguistic history. The word Easter derives from the name of an ancient Germanic goddess of fertility and sunrise, Austron. Her feast was celebrated at the spring equinox. Anglo-Saxon converts to Christianity adopted the name and, according to the Venerable Bede, some of the practices of the old worship for their Mass of the Resurrection as well. The word east derives from the same word as does the name of the goddess. The German word for Easter is similar: Ostern, but most European languages use words derived from Medieval Latin pascha: French: PÃ ¢ques Dutch: Pasen Italian: Pasque Spanish: Pascua Portuguese: Pscoa* Russian: nacxa [pass-kha]* (with thanks to Andre, Andriano, and Alexey) The Latin word come from a Hebrew word which passed into Aramaic as pasha and from there into Greek and Latin. William Tyndale, translating the Bible in 1530, translated Hebrew pesah as pass over. During the Middle English period, some writers used the word Pasche for Easter, but the pagan word is the one that has survived into modern English. Even though English speakers use Easter as the name of the festival, they do have an adjective, paschal, that has the meaning of or pertaining to Easter. One of my family traditions was the eating of the Paschal Egg on Easter morning. We cut one of our colored eggs, usually a purple one, into four pieces, one for each member of the family. I suppose that an Easter egg hunt could be referred to as a paschal event. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? US Taxation Benchmark #3 Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

US Taxation Benchmark #3 - Assignment Example The fact that Mia does not paint for the purpose of profit qualifies her artwork venture as a hobby rather than a business. Since Mia’s expenses are hobby expenses, she may not claim a loss from her artwork, although she can deduct the expense from the income from her artworks. An expense is reasonable if, in its nature and amount, it does not exceed what a prudent person would incur in the context of competitive business. Reasonableness of specific expenses must be examined with precise care in connection with the motive of the business venture, whether for profit or non-profit. If an initial review of the facts results in a test of a specific expense by the business entity, the burden of proof shall be upon the entity to establish that such expense is reasonable. A reasonable expense depends on a variety of factors such as whether it is the type of expense generally recognized as necessary and ordinary for the conduct of the entity’s business. Furthermore, the trading activities should exhibit adherence to relevant laws and regulations, generally accepted sound business practices, and arm’s-length bargaining. The U.S congress enacted the Internal Revenue Code in order to tax net income. According to the legislation, taxable income, whether obtained illegally or legally is subject to federal income tax rules. A business bad debt is a loss due to the worthlessness of a debt was created in the course of the business or it closely related to the business entity when it became worthless. Debts closely relate to a business if the primary motive of incurring them is business related. The main cause of business bad debt is credit sales. Businesses deduct their bad debts from the gross income when figuring their taxable income. Businesses can deduct bad debts in part or in full. Businesses can claim a business bad debt using either the nonaccrual experience method or the specific charge-off method. Nonbusiness debts

Abstract article on evolution of hazardous explosives emergency Research Paper

Abstract article on evolution of hazardous explosives emergency response - Research Paper Example The trend today has been the development of realistic plans which are put down on paper. It is however noted that the emphasis of putting such plans on paper has to some extent drawn focus away from the planning process itself and from the original goal of ensuring that the community is well prepared in the case of emergencies. Unlike in previous times when emergency response was the preserve of federal, regional and local governments, the activity today involves policy makers, law enforcement agencies as well as the military. With regard to terrorism, a lot of emphasis has been put on understanding the way human beings behave when subjected to stress based on information logically drawn from past studies on technological and natural disasters. Explosion emergency preparedness and response today involves the sharing of information and cooperative planning among a diversity of parties unlike what used to happen a couple of decades ago. One of the main concerns when it comes to emergency response planning and execution is citizen panic. Based on past experiences with natural and technological disasters, new models of human behaviour in the event of different explosive disasters have been developed. A lot of variations in human behaviour in disasters are based on the effects and nature of the agents that cause the explosion. Past studies have shown that some agents cause higher and more acute fear levels as compared to others. Some of the elements that have been considered by emergency planners and responders in the event of disasters include the patterns of citizen response which are impacted by such factors as disaster syndrome, and panic among other factors. In general, it is noted that the response of citizens in the event of disasters such as explosions can be predicted. The outcome of such disasters on victims and citizens to a large extent can be extrapolated from past literature on people’s responses to

Costing of Zara Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Costing of Zara - Article Example Essentially, the main purpose of business is to generate profits. When the company is in a position to generate more revenue from its operations, that is if it is operating to capacity, it is able to expand its operations. Growth of business in this particular case entails that the company can employ more people which in turn helps to generate more revenue. This is very important in as far as sustainability in the company’s long term operations are concerned. It can also be noted that for Zara to operate below capacity, it is a strong disadvantage to its financial performance. Such companies invest large sums of money to set up manufacturing plants and they must operate above capacity to recover the money that has been invested in the first place. When the company has recovered the money that has been invested, it is in a position to generate surplus revenue commonly known as profit. Any viable company should be in a position to generate profits from its operations. This can help the company to operate viably in the long run. The other disadvantage of operating below capacity is that the company may face problems in terms of meeting the maintenance costs of the equipment used in the manufacturing of fashionable clothes. A company that is operating below capacity is not able to meet all its operational costs as a result of the fact that it would be generating limited revenue. This means that the company may be forced to borrow from other financial institutions in order to sustain its operations in the event that the equipment has broken down. The company should be in a position to buy spares and meet other operational costs in the event that it has encountered some problems in its operations. This can only be possible if it is operating above capacity. To a certain extent, the only advantage that can be derived by Zara for operating below capacity is that it is in a

Special Ed Essay Example for Free

Special Ed Essay People can have multiple definitions of disability, but this is the federal definition of a disability, â€Å"An individual with a disability means any person who: (i) has a mental or physical impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity; (ii) has a record of such an impairment; or (iii) is regarded as having such an impairment† (Durhiem). In order to receive or qualify for special needs or other learning disabilities you must have a record of proof from a doctor to provide to the school. It is then the schools job then to meet the credentials needed for the disabled student. Students with varying disabilities should be given the same chances as students without disabilities. Some disabilities can require students to have separate classrooms while others might be able to operate in classes where there are students without disabilities. Each disability varies in severity and in most cases it is a student-by-student bases. It is the parents and teachers responsibility to advocate for the student and make sure their needs are met within the classroom. In fact families have certain rights provided to them and their disabled child, these rights can be provided through the 504. In order for a student to qualify for 504 the students has to have a disability. â€Å"Section 504 is a part of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that prohibits discrimination based upon disability. Section 504 is an anti-discrimination, civil rights statute that requires the needs of students with disabilities to be met as adequately as the needs of the non-disabled are met† (Durhiem). Section 504 is a foundation for equality to people of special needs. Every student deserves the right to learn and the right to reach there full potential regardless of ability. One-way Parents and the community can be informed on their local schools progress and level of education is through the No Child Left Behind Act. No Child Left Behind or NCLB, goal is to improve the education of children with a low-income family, especially within the public school system. This act was established in 2001 and has improved education for all students dramatically. NCLB establishes goals and certain criteria to prevent failing schools, â€Å" NCLB requires that schools make steady progress toward the ultimate goal of all students performing at a proficient level in reading, math, and science by the year 2014. This progress is defined as adequate yearly progress, or AYP. Schools that fail to meet AYP goals for two consecutive years must be identified as in need of improvement. (Cortiella). If the school does not meet its goals within the given time span the school district notifies the parents that the school needs improvement. This is a great way to keep parents informed on the accomplishments and struggles of the school there child attends. For the children with disabilities NCLB provides the students with different options of schools that are not failing or â€Å"in need of improvement schools. † â€Å"Students with disabilities (covered under the IDEA or Section 504) must be offered the opportunity to attend a school that has not been identified as in need of improvement. Districts must ensure that such students are provided a free, appropriate public education (FAPE) consistent with the IDEA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, in their schools of choice† (Cortiella). Fire Of Desire, Of The Movie Rudy Essay -- essays research papers

Fire of Desire Nearly everyone who has succeeded in some venture of life has at one point encountered critics and criticism. The events throughout the movie, Rudy, directed by David Anspaugh, are no different. The movie, based on a true story, is an inspiring tale of Daniel "Rudy" Rudiger’s fight against all odds to play football for Notre Dame. Rudy, through the course of his entire life, had been told by everyone that chasing his dream of playing Notre Dame football would only cause him heartache. Despite all hindrances, Rudy, played by Sean Astin, accomplished his dream, and is to this day the last Notre Dame football player to be carried off the field. The reoccurring them in the movie is to be persistent in chasing your dreams and overcome all obstacles and criticism you may encounter along the way. Evident throughout the entire movie is how the desire in Rudy’s heart helped him to overcome any physical abilities he lacked. This is clearly shown through Coach Parseghian’s having said to another player, "If you had only a tenth of the heart of Rudiger, you could have been All-American" (Coach Parseghian). Rudy was not blessed with the physical abilities of other players, but rather with the heart to continually persist in achieving his dream of playing Notre Dame football. Rudy’s heart and desire probably got him farther in the game of football than he would have got had he been more athletically gifted. Also lending sup...

Spiritual self-discipline Essay

Quest for moral values in the works of gurudev rabindranath tagore Professor B. K. Patel Head, Department of English M. G. Govt. Art and Science College, Kharsia, Chhattisgarh Abstract:- Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was a noble thinker, amazing poet, dramatist, best teacher, keen essayist and unbelievable artist of great excellence. He clearly asserts ‘Let us reset our moral compass. ‘His views on the lifestyle depend on the values of commitment, patriotism and naturalism. In spite of his being a great thinker, he propagated the ideas of naturalism and pragmatism. The values that we generally find and enjoy in the literature and philosophies of Tagore are Idealism, Humanism, Naturalism, Patriotism, internationalism and so on. Tagore says that man should identify the â€Å"ultimate truth† which will free him from the life circle. Encounter according to him is the interview with oneself. He trusts that the planet is the mixture of both fact and impression. In Tagore’s point of view, man is formed with unlimited power, which is unwanted of his subst antial existence. This superfluity is the infinite potentiality of human nature and creativity. The unwanted potentiality of man translates itself in person’s spiritual religious and ethical activities. As an idealist, he was a keen promoter of facts, benefits and ideas. According to him, by using art man can experience the completeness of the high standards of life. The peculiar artistry was nothing but sincere and spiritual self-discipline. He said that trust on and worship of God could spiritualize people’ duties and works. As a Humanist, Gurudev Rabindrabath Tagore said the characteristics of man and man are created by superior power. There is a powerful bond between man and characteristics, so man should act naturally to feel the significance of superpower within him. Knowing of self is the key to recognize the Godhood in self. As a Naturalist, he remains an excellent teacher that is not problematic for man. Nature is kind, gentle and sympathetic like a mother. As a true Patriot, Rabindranath Tagore was an excellent poet, preacher, master and servant of the nation. His documents are filled with the loyal  dogmas and doctrines. He had sworn during the independence movement to make the nation free from international slavery. His dedication for the nationwide service, sincere feeling, and certainty was great. â€Å"Jana, Gana, Mana†¦ is the popular National Anthem which elicited a powerful a sense of unity and nationalism. As a proponent of Internationalism he was in favour of the one world. He says that unity among social, color and spiritual diversities is the need of the time. Sophisticated emotions are significant in his literary creations and works of arts. Finally, he was a follower and promoter of Vedanta. He had faith on the one Supreme Being that he has called as the holy Brahma. He finds unity in the diversities in the world and a spiritual oneness between man and man, man and characteristics. The relation between God and human must be like that of between love and joy. He witnesses God in all matters and soul. He believes that existence of Lord Brahma is there in all the living beings. Adequa te answers of all the queries occur when we understand the lifestyle of Brahma within him. RABINDRANATH TAGORE AND HUMAN VALUES Biswajit Baidya Asstt. Professor, Deptt. of Philosophy, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar College, Belonia, South Tripura. Abstract- R.N. Tagore’s philosophical works are so vast that it is a herculean task to do proper justice to the world class philosopher. From R.N. Tagore’s books, we can easily surmise his own philosophical thoughts and ideas. Looking at the modern times, there is a widespread feeling of hatred, enmity and distrust among religions, caste and nations. There is a competition to use religion in the name of religionlessness. The source of such deplorable acts is not the aforesaid search for peaceful self-consciousness. It’s source is restless self-consciousness. R. N. Tagore’s view of humanism and philosophical thought never shows the unconscious principle of life and the feeling of division and conflicts as the ultimate goal of man. Tagore gives importance to ‘BhÄ gavatgÄ «tÄ Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ which teaches that one knows oneself without the division of intelligence. The Supreme spirit is everything, holds every things together. As a matter of fact, in this modern age of disdain, enmity, dismay, dishonesty, distrusted and suspicion among different religion castes and nations, R.N. Tagore’s Message and Occasional Speeches serve as a panacea for the ills of human beings. Key words: humanism, religion, values, human beings. â€Å"QUEST FOR HUMAN VALUES IN RABINDRANATH TAGORE’S GITANJALI† Dr. Baburam Swami Assistant Professor, Deptt. of English, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar College, Belonia, South Tripura. ABSTRACT: Tagore’s love for humanity is omnipresent. He shows great concern for the strife, sorrows and sufferings of humanity. His poetry is full of lofty idealism and undaunted optimism. The common objects of nature and human life are glorified and coloured in the radiance of his romantic imagination endowed with boundless love for liberty, fraternity and equality. He is a singer of the smiles and tears of human life. Spiritual humanist finds out spiritual significance in the commonplace activities of life and god in humble cottages. He condemns castes and creeds, which divide humankind. All human beings are equal to the creator there is no untouchable in the great body of God. He occupies front position in the congregation of the prophets of Humanism for his songs. Tagore’s poetry Gitanjali reflects his desperate efforts to see the world to live in peace and harmony in reality. He strives hard to foster the values of humanity and bring happiness in the land by encouraging the individuals to love one another and lead a harmonious life full of contentment. Gitanjali means song offering which are of the finite to the infinite. It is the poetry of the highest order and brings strange consolation to the human heart. It is poetry in which men converse with eternity. This paper focuses on the human values in the Gitanjali. It depicts the chaos and incoherence, the confusion of sensations and emotions that constitute the human consciousness. It also  depicts multi-theme of human relationships. Negative Aspects of Reality Shows

In recent years we have seen how the reality shows have Increasingly Invaded our screens, and there is something that captivates people to the point that change their way of life and are carried away by this â€Å"fever†. Most of the people who watch this kind of shows believe that all what they see is real so they begin to feel identify with them. The audience imitates they behaviors and most of the time it Is negative. They turn violent, Irritable and susceptible to reactions. A big percentage of people who watches this believe that their way of being is normal, but it is not like that. There are certain manners or behaviors that we are used to watch, but it doesn't mean it is normal at the point that we accept it as a way of life. What is true about this is that producers control everything and can alter or distort the actions of the actors. The actors are aware of this because when they sign their contract It Is specified over there. So, can we believe In everything we see? A key for success of these shows is the humiliation of the â€Å"actors†. Like American Idol or many others, because the jury criticizes them In a derogative way so the contestants leave the stage but being teased. The audience assimilates this as a normal process so if they don't have skills they begin to feel shame of it or scared to people who can watch them doing things. Another negative thing is that they can think that humiliation is a necessary step to succeed, thing that is not true.We hooked not allow ourselves to be influenced by these shows and that Is why there are recommendations while watching them, such as: It Is not recommended for children and young people, therefore they can understand and analyze the background and have a very strong personality. All in all we must be alert and aware to see a reality show, because this can lead to unexpected and negative changes. The best one can do is to turn this experience into something good and know how to select those programs that teach us and help us develop.
